First, let me say that this is a great product, BUT I recommend that you not follow the cutting template included with the door, unless you are installing the door against something solid, like glass or wood. I purchased it to install in a screen and the template is almost as big around as the door's frame itself. Because that didn't leave much to hold the frame in place, I envisioned it quickly pulling free of the screen as my 20 lb. cat's fat bum squeezed through repeatedly. Instead, I traced around the flap opening on cardboard, cut that 1/8" larger to accommodate the space needed for both halves to come together, then used that template to cut the opening in the screen. This was the perfect solution. The cat flap is now solidly in place on my screen and won't be going anywhere until I remove it myself. I installed it yesterday and the cats can't quite believe that they can now walk through a window that was previously solid. We're all happy!

Flap dimension is 5.75" x 5.75" and is suitable for most cats and small dogs to about 5lbs. The pet door is intended to be installed in weaker materials including glass, screen or thin wood panels and is designed to spread the support for the pet door over a large area. Please note that most glass is 'tempered' and cannot be cut (if you try, it will shatter). If you wish to install this pet door in tempered glass, you must have a local glass company make you a new piece of glass with a hole pre-cut to replace your existing glass.
